Redecorate the Home Office: Colors and Plans

I’ve been looking through my inspiration library and I picked out the colors I’d like to use for my home office. I plan to use the first row of colors to repaint the room and refinish my office desk. The second row is accent colors I’d like to use… I really like mixing gold with silver, black with brown, creme with gray.

More later with pictures of the pieces for the room and what I plan to do with them. I have my desk to sand, paint and distress… then a chair to reupholster. I also need to decide between these two rugs:

The rugs are both from IKEA and cost the same. Right now I’m leaning toward the stripe… I keep saving pictures with it in them.

Anyway, I’m going to go to home depot to get the paint today. I’m pretty excited 🙂

Contrasting Trim on Light Walls

I’ve been looking at my collection of pictures in my design arsenal and they all have white walls (well 90%). It got me thinking – I have no white walls in my house, maybe it’s time to paint some! The only room I have complete (no husband interference) in is my office. To dress up the room a little I thought why not paint the trim a contrasting shade while I have the brushes out. So here’s some inspiration of what I’m thinking color-wise:

I’m also really into black and white stripe rugs for some reason. I’ll have to do a post on that later to show you what I’m talking about. Anyway – I’m off to Home Depot later to get my paint. Now that I’ve made up my mind on this one I’ll be looking at furniture finishes for my desk and chair project coming up.

Till then! ~ Ashley

Project: Building a Fireplace Part 2

Hiya All! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I got a request from several people to hurry up and post part 2 of the fireplace “saga”. Unfortunetly, the only pictures I have of the second process is the final one… basically after we got the primer on, I distressed the peice and called it a day! Distressing is different for each peice I’ve done – this one involved some hammering down the edges and lots of sanding and scraping up the surface. I’m keeping it up for now – I might distress it more later but we’ll see.

So what do you guys think? Here’s the before of the living room….

And here’s the after!

The Fabric Search Continues

Morning! Wednesday is here and I’m getting excited about the weekend.

Onto another topic however: Outdoor Fabric. I’ve been all over planet earth looking for fabric for my cushions I’m recovering outside. Thought I’d post it here to see what you all think… ok. So here is a sketch I did really quickly of the pillow “arrangement”. Really original I know 🙂

Ashley's Sketch

Porch Pillow Sketch - I have about 50 of these things scribbled in my purse... lol!

And the next image is two ideas I came up with for color combinations. The wicker is kind of dirty white right now but I want to paint it a soft gray/brown.

My favorite part is the trim. My cat's are going to luv it... oh boy.

So that’s what I have stewing in my head. Which one do you all like better?

All in all I’ve been frustrated with the amount (or lack of) outdoor fabric I’ve found online. Plus – it’s all pretty pricey or unoriginal. What’s a girl to do??

Talk to you all later!

Loving Industrial Lighting

I’ve been looking for something to put over my dining room table. Below is a recent picture of our dining room with the less appealing light fixture. Please don’t mind the photo quality! It was taken during a party. I was telling a story about how I was recently propositioned at a car wash… ughhh!

Me in yellow. Hubbs in the white sweater. Isn't he cute?

I wanted a chandelier to replace the current fixture but then I thought that would make the space too formal. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of the (what I’m calling) American Industrial. Some options I’ve seen:

I’ve been shopping around for them and they were a little hard to find… here’s a few for you though!

Pendant Choices

Too many choices...

1. Anthropologie – $248
2. Pottery Barn – $99
3. West Elm – $99
4. Pottery Barn – $129
5. Pottery Barn – $200
6. Anthropologie – $248
7. West Elm – $89

Which one should we get?? Do you all have any other stores you’d recommend?

Thanks!

Decor Ideas: Fireplaces Faux and Real

I have a lovely blank wall in my living room.  Yes – completely empty of any focal detail what-so-ever. If you ask my friends they’ll tell you I’ve been talking about a fireplace mantle ever since we bought the house. I keep running around to antique stores but I can’t find the right one. They’re either too big, too old, or even too new! I’ve been collecting some images of fireplaces to give me some idea of styles, what to put in front of them, and colors.

Here’s my little collection so far… I’ll post some more as I have them. I keep thinking I should just ask my dad to help me make one – he’s awesome when it comes to making things.

Image Credits: Most of these are from the late Domino Magazine. The other’s I just have in my collection. If anyone can give proper credit or knows where some of the others are from, please let me know! Thanks!

Did you see the fifth one down? I would love a fireplace in my kitchen. *melt!*

Best wishes!
